Welcome!
Dear ECREA2021 Participants
Dear friends and colleagues
Welcome to the University of Minho, Welcome to the city of Braga, Welcome to Portugal!
It is with great joy that, on behalf of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), we welcome you and wish you a pleasant, fruitful and inspiring ECREA 2021 Conference.
It is an honour for all of us in the Communication and Society Research Centre to host the 8th European Communication Conference at the University of Minho.
We hope this will be a great opportunity to share knowledge and to debate the most pressing issues in the media and communication field today. The conference theme ‘Communication and Trust: building safe, sustainable and promising futures’ gives us the opportunity to look back at our common past, to examine the present and to explore different visions of the futures we are helping to build.
We wish ECREA 2021 will stand, for each and everyone of us, as a meaningful academic and personal experience, as a promoter of scientific debate, and as an accelerator of projects and networks for years to come.
Looking forward to meeting you in Braga!
Helena Sousa
Conference General Coordinator
About Braga
Braga was founded by the Bracari Celts, known in Roman times as Bracara Augusta. It is located in the North of Portugal, in the Minho region, and has about 120.000 inhabitants. In terms of population, it is one of the youngest cities in Europe.
Braga is a vibrant city, full of culture and traditions, where the History and the Christian roots live side by side with technological industries and the academic world.
How to get to Braga
Porto Airport
Porto airport is the closest international airport (about 50Kms away from Braga city centre). It has connections to several European destinations and some of the main airline companies in Europe fly to Porto airport, which is the base for some low-costs like EasyJet and Ryanair.
Connection to Braga
From the Porto airport to Braga there is railway connection and a non-stop shuttle service (ticket can be bought online for 8€). The getbus takes only 40-45 minutes from the airport door to the bus central station in Braga.
Taxi costs around 55/60€ between the airport and the town, but it is still a good option, specially for a group of three or four people. Rent a car services are also an option.
Accommodation
Braga has a wide range of hotels (including some international groups, such as Meliá, Mercure ou Ibis). The town has several hostels as well and many flats for short period term. The major part of them are located in the city centre with privileged view. Prices are usually lower than in other towns of the country.
Participants may book accommodation with Abreu Events.
Practical information
Located in the North of Portugal and close to the Atlantic Ocean, Braga has a temperate oceanic climate. Autumns are characterized by mild temperatures. In any case, please check the weather before departure so you take appropriate clothing.
