The University of Minho Braga Campus
The infrastructure and facilities of the University area quite diverse. It has several emblematic buildings, relevant to the history of the city of Braga and located in the urban centre, as it is the case of Largo do Paço building (former Archiepiscopal Palace), the Congregados Building and Nogueira da Silva Museum. In the three Campi – Gualtar Campus, in Braga, Azurém and Couros Campi, in Guimarães -, the University stands out for having reference modern infrastructures and for being open to the community and to the world as a multicultural and multilingual space.
Located on the east side of the city of Braga and occupying an area of 39.80 ha, the Gualtar Campus takes the form an irregular polygon. The Campus is bordered to the south by the EN103 national road, which is nowadays the main entrance. There is another secondary entry to the south-east, across the link street Gualtar. The latest entry is located north (third access), near the new Braga District Hospital. The sanctuaries of Bom Jesus and Sameiro stand on the slopes surrounding the campus, giving it a particularly enjoyable and unusual landscaping. The architectural language of the building on this campus reflects the authorial diversity and the period for which they were designed and constructed. Consisting of 19 buildings, they were predominantly built with four floors and their alignment was established by the General Plans of this complex. The green area surrounding the campus of Gualtar is simultaneously, a space of leisure and well-being, and a protective border for the roads surrounding it. The Pedagogic Complex II will be totally dedicated to the 8th European Communication Conference.
